21st Century Heat Pump Technology Future-proofs Historical Building

Limavady based air cool engineering NI, were delighted to be involved with the recent energy retrofit of the former Barrack Stores on the Ebrington site in Derry/Londonderry. Rather than re-functioning the historical building into ‘standard’ commercial offices, The AMP’s owners wanted to create a sustainable, supported and flexible business hub for budding entrepreneurs and start-ups in the North West. Energy efficiency, client comfort and balancing aesthetics with functionality were all key considerations for The AMP’s refurbishment brief. Although not a listed property, sympathetically future-proofing a heritage building efficiently is challenging. air cool engineering’s forward thinking client understood that traditional gas or oil fired boiler systems would struggle to achieve the energy efficiencies the business wanted and the building needed. Aaron McElhinney, joint owner of The AMP added: ‘We required a highly responsive heating solution which could efficiently maintain optimum comfort levels throughout the shared open workspaces, meeting rooms and offices. We were particularly interested in accessing sustainable, controllable, flexible and low carbon technologies for our 180 year old property. Our high spec interior design brief also called for a heating solution which could be easily and discreetly ‘integrated’ with the interior decor. We looked no further than local heating, ventilation and air conditioning specialists air cool engineering NI, to advise our team on the best solution for our business.’ As trusted and established HVAC specialists, air cool engineering NI advised The AMP team that the Mitsubishi Electric City Multi VRF system could simultaneously deliver heating, cooling and heat recovery throughout the building. Harnessing air-to-air heat pump technology, the City Multi VRF offers exceptional flexibility and stable temperatures, while the heat recovery function provides significant energy cost savings for the business. Martin Mullan, Managing Director for air cool engineering NI added: ‘We were delighted that The AMP team chose a local contractor for the energy retrofit of the historic Barrack Stores. As the 180 year old building was being re-functioned into office spaces of varying sizes, our client needed a tailored and flexible heating solution which could efficiently stabilise indoor comfort conditions. The Mitsubishi Electric City Multi VRF Series perfectly meets the heating demands of this old building with optimum efficiency. By investing in low-carbon heat pump technology, The AMP is future-proofing not only their own business, but also the multiple SME’s who operate from their property in Ebrington.’ If your business is interested in the flexible, low carbon and energy efficient credentials of heat pump technology, please get in touch with local HVAC professionals air cool engineering NI on +44 (0) 28 777 67114 or email sales@ni.aircool.co.uk.

Car dealership switches to all-electric heating and cooling

Having trusted air cool engineering NI with the previous fit out of their luxury DS brand showroom, JC Halliday & Sons were happy to appoint the HVAC contractor to provide an indoor climate control package for their recently refurbished Citreön and Vauxhall car dealership in Campsie, Derry/Londonderry. The Challenge With its open plan showroom and large floor-to-ceiling windows, JC Halliday & Sons struggled to control the fluctuating indoor temperatures throughout their building. They required an energy efficient, versatile and highly responsive system which could deliver heating, cooling and ventilation to achieve and maintain comfortable indoor conditions all year round. The Solution air cool engineering NI installed Mitsubishi Electric ceiling cassette systems to provide heating and cooling to the space. The units are equipped with sensors to constantly monitor and maintain optimum temperatures of the surrounding air. The showroom is also fitted with Mitsubishi Electric Lossnay heat recovery ventilation units. These Lossnay units supply fresh air, remove stale air and provide a heat recovery function by harvesting the energy from the extracted air to heat the incoming fresh air. As a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Quality Partner, JC Halliday & Sons can avail of the 10 year warranty on the Mitsubishi Electric equipment installed in their refurbished showroom. Andrew Miller, Dealer Principal for JC Halliday & Sons said: ‘Our showroom refurbishment was an opportune time for the business to explore alternative and more sustainable methods to heat and cool our property. While staff and customer comfort has always been paramount, the pandemic also highlighted the need to improve the overall air quality within the building too. air cool engineering NI demonstrated how modern air conditioning technologies operating in conjunction with a mechanical ventilation system, would be the ideal controllable heating, cooling and ventilation solution our business needed. We are confident too, that by switching to all-electric, low carbon, energy efficient systems, our property is future proofed for years to come.’ Martin Mullan, Managing Director for air cool engineering NI Ltd added: ’JC Halliday & Sons needed a system which could effortlessly deliver controllable comfort and help promote energy efficiency. Compared to traditional space heating methods, using low carbon air-to-air heat pump technology alongside mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, ensures lower running costs and more efficient operation for the business. Both systems are highly responsive to the changing weather conditions outside and the fluctuating temperatures inside. When working in tandem, the showroom will be a comfortable, temperature-controlled and well ventilated environment for their staff and customers.' Cool Heat Pump Install Nailed By Air Cool Engineering NI

Due to multiple lockdowns, home-working for many people has become the norm. Even now, extending remote-work arrangements beyond the pandemic are becoming a serious consideration for many forward-thinking businesses. However, keeping your home and work life separate can be challenging, so it’s no surprise that garden rooms have become very popular. One local client saw the benefits of moving her nail art business out of her home and into a garden room. However, to make her new ‘work place’ usable all year round, she needed a simple and cost-effective heating, cooling and ventilation solution which would ensure clients felt comfortable and safe during their appointments. Extending the home heating system to her garden ‘studio’ wasn’t a feasible option. air cool engineering NI’s solution was to install a Mitsubishi Electric M Series air conditioning system. Using advanced heat pump technology, the M Series wall mounted system efficiently delivers heating and cooling to small and medium sized spaces. The stylish and compact wall mounted unit perfectly blends in well with the room’s decor. Plus, as the M Series only requires a single phase electricity supply, installation was quick and easy. Our client was also concerned about ventilation and wanted a simple solution to provide fresh, filtered air - without having to open windows. We installed a Mitsubishi Electric VL-100EU wall mounted Lossnay to provide heat recovery ventilation to the space. This unit is even more compact than the wall mounted air conditioning unit and will provide fresh air vertically or horizontally into the space via a simple adjustable flap on the front of the unit. The Lossnay is positioned to serve the working area, providing fresh air ventilation in these uncertain times. air cool engineering’s client commented “To become more covid-compliant and to ensure my family and clients are safe at all times, moving my ‘work space’ into the garden became a priority. As the nail studio is physically separate from my house, the stand alone air conditioning and ventilation system will give me the flexibility to safely extend appointment availability and operate in all weathers too. I am confident that with air cool engineering’s help, I have all measures in place to make my business covid-safe and comfortable for myself, clients and family. After such a long period of lockdown, I am so excited to welcome my wonderful clients back to my new garden studio.” air cool engineering NI Ltd are based in Limavady and operate across Northern and Southern Ireland. Established in 1998, they have grown to be one of the province’s most reputable and trusted heating, ventilation and air conditioning contractors. A breath of fresh air indoors

Good indoor ventilation and fresh air circulation has now become as important as washing your hands. The NI Executive has indicated in the past “...that support will be provided for mitigations to reduce risk within the hospitality sector, including improved ventilation...”. So, how can businesses improve indoor air quality in their premises? Simply opening windows and doors to allow fresh air into buildings is a good start. However, with cooler outdoor temperatures this obvious solution is far from both practical and sustainable. Mechanical ventilation systems are an ideal solution to improving indoor air quality - all year round. In simple terms, mechanical ventilation heat recovery can effectively and efficiently supply filtered fresh air and extract stale air throughout a building. Martin Mullan, Managing Director for air cool engineering (NI) Ltd said: “The safest indoor space is one that has lots of fresh filtered air replacing the stale air inside. Given the risk of virus transmission, our advice is to maximise the fresh air supply to a building through mechanical ventilation heat recovery technology. By focusing attention to fresh air supply, its circulation and filtration, businesses can add another powerful tool to their anti-coronavirus toolkit.” For further details contact air cool engineering (NI) Ltd on 028 777 67114 or by email sales@ni.aircool.co.uk
