Export Technologies is a UK based company that was set up by Simon Loughlin, a PhD graduate and former IT lecturer at Queen's University in 2001.
The original software team worked on designing a software platform, the International Retail Platform (IRP), that was capable of dealing with the demands of retail and E-Commerce in an open market environment. The initial software designs were constructed to address the concept that: 'If customers are able to buy from anywhere - how does the retailer sell to as many of them as possible?'
The platform built to address the question was designed using the latest technology and software concepts to meet the demand of selling into the new markets enabled by the internet. Initial design specifications showed the underlying data structures of selling in classic shop retail were similar to E-Commerce, therefore the platform was built to allow all forms of stock control and retail to operate seamlessly off one single platform.
The power of the IRP platform is that it combines the detail of stock control, E-Commerce, EPOS, security and concepts of true international multi-lingual and multi-currency E-Commerce with simplicity into what Export Technologies believes is the most advanced commercially available product.
After 3 years of development, a release version of the IRP went live commercially in November 2004. It now powers both high street shops and major online retailers throughout the United Kingdom.
