The school is led by graduates of one of the UK’s leading conservatories, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. As professional musicians and teachers we provide high quality, fun music lessons.
Our aim is to enthuse every child we meet so that they can enjoy music to their full potential. We endeavour to help children on their musical journey, offering many different opportunities to perform and interact with others.
Performance “Music has the power to excite and enrich all our lives. It is vital that we give young people the chance to experience this magic first hand” David Lammy, Minister for Culture, Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
When teaching brass, guitar or drums in schools, we aim to create and support group activities. These groups could perform together on a weekly basis or performances could be reserved for special occasions like Christmas, Easter or end of the school year.
- Examinations We regularly enter pupils for exams, this is not obligatory but we do encourage pupils to take advantage of the opportunity. It gives them something to work towards as well as a great sense of achievement. We use the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, the London College of Music, Trinity Guildhall and Rockschool examinations. This provides a wide range of musical styles and offers great flexibility for our pupils.
Ensembles
Samba There has been a fantastic response to our Brazilian samba workshops. We now have three samba bands performing regularly throughout the area. The goal in a samba workshop is to produce a good performance of a simple piece of music. Everyone who takes part will be playing on authentic Brazilian instruments from our samba school. These workshops can take place on a single day or as a weekly unit such as an afterschool club.
Workshops are based around the following format:
• An introduction to the basics of samba • Call and response rhythms within the group • Smaller groups learning individual rhythms • Smaller groups combining to create the groove of a samba beat • Learning visual and whistle signals to start or stop the music • Learning a ‘break’- when a different theme is introduced • Learning two or three different rhythms • Performance of the piece
Recording Techniques
Workshops These classes can run each week or can be reserved for specific topics in the curriculum. Typical topics are
• Music through the ages • The instruments of the orchestra • Making musical instruments • Singing games • Percussion workshop • Samba workshop (Brazilian percussion)
If you have a specific topic in mind, please contact us and we will build a workshop to meet your needs.
Benefits of Music - UCAS Points The UCAS Points System is used as a means of giving students from the UK and Republic of Ireland places at UK universities. (ABRSM, LCMM/TVU, Rockschool and Trinity Guildhall/Trinity College London). UCAS Tariff points are given for most grade 6,7 and 8 Practical and Theory Exams.
- Music Increases Intelligence Many detailed studies have proven that music stimulates the mind, encourages creativity and helps to lay a foundation for learning that leads to higher intelligence and aptitude. The relationship between music education and the development of skills that children need to become successful in life is exceptionally close. Self-discipline, patience, sensitivity, coordination, and the ability to memorize and concentrate are all enhanced by the study of music. These skills will follow your child on whatever path he or she chooses in life. If you are looking for a way to provide your child with a source of life-long joy, satisfaction, and accomplishment, childhood music education is an excellent first step. |
