Davey Music provides comprehensive tuition services for anyone interested in learning to play traditional Irish music. Based in Belfast, Davey Music is run by husband and wife team Patrick and Bronagh Davey, and was established in 2008 to build on the wealth of experience that both Patrick and Bronagh have in the area of teaching traditional Irish music. Davey Music also offers a corporate service, providing traditional Irish musicians for all occasions including hospitality events and product launches. We specialise in the provision of traditional Irish music for church services and particularly weddings, having worked extensively in this area for many years.
Davey Music co-ordinates a large network of private tutors who offer high quality private and small group tuition in traditional Irish music. Tuition is offered on the following instruments: tin whistle, flute, uilleann pipes, fiddle, harp, banjo, mandolin, guitar, bodhrán, button accordion and concertina. All levels of ability are catered for, from beginner through intermediate to advanced, and tutors have particular experience in preparing students for the grade examinations of The London College of Music. Students can also avail of specialist tuition geared towards preparation for the Fleadh Cheoil competitions of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and also towards school GCSE and A- Level practical examinations.
LCM Grade Examinations:
Davey Music is affiliated to The London College of Music, who offer a structured series of grade examinations and diplomas in traditional Irish music. Davey Music tutors have been preparing students for the LCM grade exams since 2001 and during that time have produced a pass rate of 100%. Tuition is offered to students preparing for all examination levels, from Preliminary through grades 2, 4, 6 and 8 as far as Diploma level. The LCM grade examinations are rapidly increasing in popularity, particularly since the higher grades now earn valuable UCAS points for successful candidates. Davey Music runs a private LCM examination centre, so that our students can take their LCM examination in a familiar environment.
Fleadh Cheoil Competitions:
Davey Music students can also receive specialist tuition to assist with preparation for competition entry, particularly Fleadh Cheoil competitions. Students have previously achieved much success at County, Provincial and All-Ireland Fleadh competitions, in solo and also duet and trio categories. Students are guided through the development of a suitable competition repertoire and will receive tuition to enable them to perform this repertoire to a very high standard.
School Practical Examinations:
GCSE and A-Level music students are increasingly choosing to perform traditional Irish music for their practical examinations, for both solo and ensemble performances. Davey Music offers specialist tuition for students preparing for these practical examinations, including the preparation of a suitable solo and ensemble repertoire along with advice on the actual performance.
Weddings and other Church Services:
Couples are increasingly seeking to have high quality traditional Irish music played at their wedding service, and the musicians of Davey Music have a particular interest in this area. We can provide virtually any combination of instruments and singers for a wedding service, and can offer advice on choosing a suitable programme of music. We can provide music for the service itself as well as during the reception dinner. Davey Music can also provide traditional Irish musicians for other church services.
Corporate Events:
Davey Music can also provide traditional Irish musicians for any occasion, from a solo harp player to a large multi-instrumental group.
