Architects Knox and Markwell are Chartered Architects registered with the Architect’s Registration Board, the RIBA and RSUA as a registered Architectural Partnership. The award-winning Practice was formed in 1972 and over the intervening years has expanded its level of service to include architecture, conservation architecture, project management and environmental design.

The Practice has extensive experience in a broad range of sectors including ecclesiastical, community, education, conservation, bespoke housing and social housing and commercial.

With an excellent pedigree in church architecture, recently completed projects include Seagoe Parish Centre, Portadown, First Bangor and West Presbyterian Churches in Bangor, Strean Presbyterian Church in Newtownards and Newcastle Presbyterian Church.

The practice has also extensive experience of the social housing sector and has twice won the Councillor Jim Speers Award for Best Housing Association Project in 2006 (Glen Alva, Belfast for Helm Housing) and in 2009 (Portaferry Road, Newtownards for Habinteg Housing Association.)

As conservation architects the practice was responsible for the high-profile refurbishment of Newtownards Town Hall (Ards Arts Centre) and Portaferry Market House, and is currently working on major stonework repairs at Belfast Central Library for the Belfast Education and Library Board and with the management committee of St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast.

Recent commercial projects include a new resource centre in Belfast and two dental practices in Dunmurry and Bangor.

The practice is also currently active in the private housing sector where it has also won a number of design awards. One-off, new build homes along with extensions and modernisations have all been successfully completed for a plethora of clients.

The practice is led by three partners – Brian Knox, Clyde Markwell and Judith Hamilton and has achieved both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation.
