Although known as a specialist operator, offering cross-border haulage, storage and distribution services to an increasing number of blue chip companies, Mulgrew Haulage has in more recent times developed a successful service between Ireland and the UK mainland. With their links in the soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and packaging markets, this service has grown steadily.
The company was founded by Dermot Mulgrew Senior in 1973. Originally based in the Belfast docks area, where purpose built accommodation soon followed, steady success meant it outgrew the facilities there.
In 1995 the company moved to its current central location at a specially converted old mill just off the A1 dual carriageway on the Lurgan road in Dromore, County Down, where it now has 120,000 sq ft (11,000 m2) at its disposal, 90,000 sq ft (8,100 m2) of that secure warehousing space.
“While business is all about cost today, we like to think that we go that extra mile by providing our customers with a truly dedicated, personalised service that takes account of their needs and demands, and as more businesses operate on a 24/7 basis, we, too, have had to offer that flexibility,” commented Operations Director Dermot Mulgrew Jnr, who joined his father in the company some 13 years ago.
“If you can’t give customers an efficient and effective service when they need it, what point is there in being in business? We work directly with the customer, rather than through agents or third parties. We are continually looking to the future to provide our customers with a partnership which yields a service that proves to be unbeatable.”
It is that friendly and adaptable approach that has resulted in a strong, solid and loyal customer base. Indeed, some of the company’s very first customers of 30 years ago are still doing business with Mulgrew Haulage Limited today!
