Clearway has its beginning in the mid-1960s when John Murphy started in the waste management and the recycling business. His business has grown steadily over the past 40 years to become one of the largest metal recycling and waste management companies in the UK and the largest in Ireland.

Clearway is first on the list for hundreds of public and private sector business, at home and abroad who demand professionalism and quality. Waste producing companies carry a legal obligation to dispose of their waste in a responsible and ethical manner. By utilising a partnership approach and applying our specialist knowledge of the recycling and waste management industry, Clearway assists their customers in achieving the highest standards of compliance.

Clearway offers its services throughout Ireland with processing facilities at Belfast and Portadown and Dublin, Cork and Athlone in the Republic of Ireland where it operates as Hammond Lane.

Hammond
Hammond Lane was acquired by Clearway in 1999 and the company continues to trade in that name that has been synonymous with metal recycling in Ireland for well over 100 years.

Hammond Lane has processing facilities at Dublin Port; Ringaskiddy (Cork) and Athlone. The company handles all grades of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Having established overseas export markets for all grades of metals the highest available prices can be paid for scrap metals.

With ever, increasing environment legislation Hammond Lane can offer its customers the highest standards to meet their requirements. Long before the End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) was in place Hammond Lane had installed the best facilities available for the depollution of ELVs at its site in Dublin and Athlone.

Aughrim Landfill
The landfill site at Aughrim Quarry is Clearway’s latest acquisition. This site has been operating as a landfill for Category A and Category B waste. The site is due to be issued with a PPC Licence that will allow the site to also accept a wider range of non-hazardous wastes including mixed municipal waste. The site has the capacity to receive up to 250,000 tonnes per annum for the next 16 years thus providing a long-term solution to Northern Ireland’s waste disposal problems. The number of PPC licensed landfill facilities will be limited due to the very stringent planning and environmental conditions now required to operate landfill sites.

The main users of this facility will be Local Councils, transfer stations that produce residual waste from recycling operations, and commercial and industrial waste producers.
