A small family-run firm established in 1836, with the sixth generation of the family now in charge.

Principal activity is rose breeding; we create the varieties which other rose growers and garden centres grow and offer for sale. Our rose varieties may be grown by other growers and producers under license through the British Association Representing Breeders (BARB).

We do grow small quantities of our own varieties for sale as bare-root plants during the autumn/winter season, which generally runs from November to March. The varieties may be seen in the rose-fields next to the nursery during the summer, with mid-July to end of August being the best time.



Gold Standard Roses
The Gold Standard Trials are the result of a joint initiative between professional rose breeders represented by BARB (British Association of Rose Breeders) and NIAB (National Institute of Agricultural Botany). Unlike some other rose trials, breeders pay a fee for each rose variety submitted to the trials, independently managed by NIAB at their Cambridge headquarters. Based on cumulative information from invited independent judges throughout the two year period of the trial, the Gold Standard is awarded to worthy varieties. Health, floriferousness, scent and commercial appeal are all considered key factors.

Rose Naming Opportunites
Roses are exclusive to the customer, therefore not catalogued. This is the cheapest option and, for three years, you will receive a total of 50 plants and a Certificate of Authenticity. Depending on your colour preference, classification and availability you could have plants this autumn / winter. All roses offered have been tested for more than two years. Caring For Your Roses
Treat roses as you would look after yourself: a well looked after rose is usually a healthy rose. When it’s hungry, feed it. When it’s thirsty, water it. Even if you don’t want to spray your roses, they should be easy maintained if you avoid disease prone varieties.
