It was not until a dear friend and admirer of Paddy’s musical and artistic work asked if he would consider creating an original make-up look for a dance competition that Paddy had ever thought of painting anything but canvas. Paddy began developing his techniques on paper, creating shading and contoured looks that he could replicate on the face. 'I remember when I was asked to do it, at first I wasn’t sure, I had never done anything like it before but I soon found that it was much like painting. I was hooked.'

When he finally created the look Paddy wanted to learn more and so travelled to London where he had the opportunity to train with MAC and Charles Fox learning new styles and honing his abilities. During his training he began working afternoons in theatres, putting his training into practice. 'Being a home bird, I returned to Northern Ireland to share my experiences with friends but it wasn’t long before I was training again, I couldn’t get enough'

He continued his training with top makeup artists from international brand names such as MAC, Stila, NARS, Laura Mercier, Chantacaille and Stephen Marias. The peek in his training came when he had the once in a lifetime opportunity to work with Kylie’s personal make-up artist; Karen Adler.


Paddy believes in constant training, he never loses touch with current trends and techniques. 'I am always looking to the future for inspiration and ideas. Every time I lift a make-up brush I am thinking what I can do to perfect this look, how can I make today special for the client'. His passion and belief in his work means that he produces the perfect look every time for ever individual or project, no matter the occasion.

Paddy’s work is now highly sought after, his reputation as one of Northern Ireland’s leading make-up artist is firmly established and his work across the UK and beyond has brought him critical acclaim. Working from the busy Michael Quinn’s Hairdressing he is able to build a personal rapport. 'Make-up and skin care consultations with my clients are very personal. I try to understand the relationship they have with their skin and from this provide the results they want. When I look at a client’s face in the mirror when I’m finished, I feel proud of the look but also of the affect it has on them as a person – it’s what it’s all about!'
