| | Anarchy In The EP | | | | After much spurious speculation and significant scintillation surrounding this year’s Electric Picnic line-up, the list of artists has finally emerged from the booing agent’s smoke filled rooms. Recent rumours mooted punk protégés Sex Pistols as one of the headline acts, and the rumours have proved to be true. The anarchist’s anarchists are coming to thrash out their punk political pastiches at the most ambient and relaxed of festivals, Electric Picnic. One wonders about the nature of the smoke in the aforementioned smoke filled rooms. Other acts lined up include the moody undulations of Portishead who have been keeping a low profile of late but are releasing a new album, Third, at the end of next month. The musical circuitry of Battles will also be a major highlight at the festival from the band who will be fresh from an appearance at Oxegen. Funk legend George Clinton & his 30 piece P-Funk Allstars will be supplying a big slap in the bass to all the funkaholics at the festival. Clinton is one of the most important innovators of funk music, and quite comfortably sits on the right hand of the God Father, James Brown. Other features will include Franz Ferdinand, My Bloody Valentine and Turin Brakes. The three-day event takes place at Stradbally Hall between August 29th and 31st. Weekend tickets cost €240 including camping, with the various sites opening at 9am on Friday August 29. Camper van access is €60. There are no single day tickets available. The Sex Pistols are enjoying a bit pf a resurgence of late being confirmed this year for the Open’er Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, the Live at Loch Lomond festival, the Peace and Love festival in Borlänge, Sweden, and Exit festival 2008. The line-up in full: Sex Pistols, Sigur Ros, Grinderman, Franz Ferdinand, George Clinton & The P-Funk Allstars, My Bloody Valentine, Goldfrapp, Christy Moore, Wilco, The Gossip, Duffy, Underworld, Tinariwen, CSS, Tindersticks, New Young Pony Club, Josh Ritter, Lisa Hannigan, Cathy Davey, That Petrol Emotion, The Breeders, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Sinead O'Connor, The Waterboys, The Roots, Kila, Micah P Hinson, Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), Hayseed Dixie, Candi Staton, Juana Molina, Turin Brakes, Faust, Midnight Juggernauts, Tartit, Hadouken!, Silver Apples, Mark Geary, Teitur, Blitzen Trapper, Absentee, Balanescu Quartet, Lou Rhodes, Adrian Crowley, One Day International, The Yard Dogs, Tobias Froberg, Boss Volenti, Dawn Landes, Constantines, Yacht, Lionheart Brothers, Large Mound, Emmy the Great, Foals, Kormac & the BSQ Band, Jape, Noisettes, Dublin Gospel Choir plus more to be announced.
