Sing When You're Winning, Win When You're Singing!
Are you sick of singing along to Singstar for points instead of prizes? Have you wore down your hairbrush using it as a microphone? Are you fed up watching pop idol knowing you could be out there wowing the judges? Well now is your chance to give those pipes a public airing by getting yourself down to the Bambu Beach Club who are looking for a girl or guy with star quality to represent Northern Ireland in a UK wide singing competition known as 'Wannabe'… The last time this competition ran none other than the sensational Leona Lewis was the overall UK winner, and heats will be held at the venue at the end of July and beginning of August. The regional winner will then go on to compete in an unconfirmed UK location against other regions. The prize for the NI regional winner is £1,000 plus automatic entry to the UK final. The runner-up of the UK final wins £1,500 and the overall star winning an impressive £5,000 and a recording studio session to record a song. Only singers are welcome to compete, no bands or instruments will be considered although singers are allowed to be backed by a band, backing track, instrument or sing a capella should they wish. Contestants will be invited to perform one song in the preliminary stage of the competition and there will be three judges at each heat. Judges will mark contestants based on an agreed criteria:
Vocal Ability
Star Presence/Appearance/Style
Audience impact
The judges will select a winner based upon the performance of one song and at the end of the night, the winner will be invited back to re-perform their song. The Grand Final in the UK will have a panel of five/six Judges (two of which will be celebrities!). To qualify for heats entrants must be 18 or over and provide I.D. Email angela.warren@pbr.uk.com with your name, contact phone number, age and song you will be performing and if you will have any backup, i.e band, instrument, backing track etc. Contestants will then be contacted by telephone with dates for heats and performance time.
