NI DJs Compete For World Glory
Movida Corona - the world's biggest DJ competition - will reach a climax this weekend in Northern Ireland, with one winning DJ going forward to represent the country in the world final.
Movida Corona, which is organised by Corona Extra, showcases the best up-and-coming DJs and is a recognised launch-pad onto the international stage, turning wannabes into global stars.
Just four DJs will battle it out at Thompsons, Belfast, this Friday, 7 November 2008, to win a place at the world final. One DJ will be crowned champion and go on to represent Northern Ireland in the world final, which is being held in Vienna, Austria, on November 29.
The ultimate goal for the winning DJ is not only the chance to represent Northern Ireland in a DJ battle against the rest of the world, but the world champion will win the exclusive chance to perform at selected Pacha clubs around the globe.
The road to the Movida Corona world final - and the chance to compete against winners from more than 11 countries - has taken place with a series of local heats across Northern Ireland.
DJs competing on the night are Kevin Walsh from Derry City, Alan Johnson from Port Stewart, Chris Woods from Bangor, and Justin McElhinney from Letterkenny.
In last year’s competition, Northern Ireland DJ Mark Cowan was crowned Movida Corona world champion after beating off stiff competition from DJs from over 70 countries. Mark Cowan will be playing a set at this year’s Northern Ireland final alongside DJ Candella from Pacha and Thompsons’ resident Steve Boyd.
