Soulfly are back on the rampage again, and if you know what's good for you, you'll start rolling yourself into the foetal position now. The band are one of the meanest sounding thrash metallers ever, full of pedigree and a brutal reputation. Soulfly's Brazilian born lead man, Max Cavalera, is the former vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the pioneering Sepultura, while in his current manifestation Max has worked with many of the genre's best, including Chino Moreno of Deftones, Slipknot's Corey Taylor, as well as members of Korn, Sean Lennon and Dave Grohl. Full of feats of Herculean musicianship and grinding riffs, the band have such wide reaching influences from North American, South American, and British metal, that they've become hugely influential themselves. Soulfly have managed to span many of the metal subgenres, while inventing a few of their own on the way. Their no nonsense approach and irreverent style has won them wide respect from their contemporaries as well as a Gold Certified record in their debut album. With huge songs such as Back To The Primitive, as well as a brand new critically acclaimed album released in July, their Spring and Airbrake appearance should be a point of pilgrimage for fans of modern metal. The band have again broadened their horizons without losing any of their edge, no easy feat for most bands, but then again, this is Soulfly we're talking about. Soulfly Appear In Spring & Airbrake on Thursday 5th February. Tickets are £17.50, doors open 9.00pm.
