Classic Car Show Clocks Up Milestones
The annual Vintage, Classic and Sports Car show returns to the Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle at the end of January and this year’s show will celebrate several milestones.
Now in its fifteenth year, the show has raised more than £75,000 for a number of local charities. All proceeds from this year’s show – which runs from Friday 30 January to Sunday 1 February – will go to Cancer Research UK.
This year is also the 50th anniversary of a motoring icon – the Mini – and one of the stars of this year’s show will be a 1966 Mini Cooper. Alongside it will be an MGB, which was raced by another motoring icon – Sir Stirling Moss.
Launching this year’s event, Martin Cromwell of the show’s organisers, the Classics Charity Committee, said: “We are delighted at the quality and variety of the cars on display this year and all of them are making their first appearance at the show. There’s something to suit every taste – whether it’s a vintage Austin or Chevrolet from the 1920s, or a classic Wolsley or Ford Mustang convertible from the 1960s.
Alongside the 40 cars packed into the hotel’s Grand Ballroom will be a collection of motorbikes and tractors, as well as antiques, jewellery and bric-a-brac stands.
Admission is £5 (£2 for children under 15) and refreshments will be available throughout the show. Doors open at 4pm (until 10pm) on Friday 30 January and then from 10am to 10pm on Saturday, and from 10am to 6pm on Sunday 1 February.
