Top Artist Reveals Spooky Exhibition
Susan MacWilliam is one of Northern Ireland's best known artists, and she just happens to have a spooky side to her.
Her new exhibition, 13 Roland Gardens, opens at the Golden Thread Gallery's Project Space on the 5th of March 2009 and follows MacWilliam's recent selection to represent Northern Ireland in the prestigious 2009 Venice Biennale.
But MacWilliam is no ordinary artist. Her video installations explore the world of the paranormal, and the tradition of psychical research.
The scope of her work includes studies of particular historical cases of paranormal phenomena and focuses on accounts of materialisation mediums and clairvoyants, x-ray vision, optograms and dermo-optical perception - and is realized in the form of video, photography and installation works.
She has worked closely with prominent parapsychologists and documents their findings and spooky experiences.
13 Roland Gardens was first screened in Seeing is Believing at the Photographers' Gallery, London in 2007 where it was exhibited alongside archival photographs of mediumistic phenomena from the collection of the psychical researcher Harry Price, Senate House, University of London, and now you can see it for yourself at the Golden Thread Gallery.
You can view Susan MacWilliam's work at the Golden Thread gallery in Belfast from 5th until the 14th of March, 6pm - 8pm.
