The first Thursday of the month has arrived and that can only mean one thing: It’s time for some ‘Late Night Art’. That is to say Belfast’s public art galleries will be opened today until 9pm and surprise us with a variety of new releases. It also includes two different tours to get the most out of Belfast’s artistic life during the event, suitable for all restless minds. For those seeking comfort, there is a bus tour that starts at the Ormeau Baths Gallery (£7), while the bravest can choose the walking tour that leaves from Belfast Exposed (£5). Both begin at 6.15pm. The trip through the Belfast’s arts showcase coincides today with the launch of a new exhibition you just can’t miss. ‘What You Can’t See’ involves the showing of three enigmatic films created around photography archives. This is the result of a scrupulous selection of pictures and follows the highly detailed task of finding imaginary links between them in order to get a complete story. Is there a better way to prepare us for the forthcoming Belfast Exposed Archive Gallery? The photography gallery will open today at 6pm with a meeting between the artists of its new exhibition, namely Duncan Campbell (pictured piece: Falls Burns Malone Fiddles), Ines Schaber, Stefan Pente and Jean-Gabriel Périot. There are also many other galleries releasing new exhibitions and throwing open their doors tonight, such as Catalys Arts (‘The Hero and Now’, by Helen Sharp), Ormeau Baths Gallery (‘Energy Class B’, by various artists) or PLACE (‘Blueprints: Architects in Transit’, by Julia Atkinson, which was included in the Polish Cultural Week earlier this year). Have a look at the Belfast Galleries website to see the full comprehensive list. At 9pm the galleries will close their doors, but if you still don’t feel like going home you should visit the Black Box where the artistic tourists will meet to share their opinions about the art tour. The initiative, organised by Belfast City Council in partnership with Culture Northern Ireland, will run on the first Thursday of each month. Tickets for the tours can be purchased at www.belfastgalleries.com or at the Belfast Welcome Centre.
