| | Transmusical | | | | In the Trans festival all experiments in new trends, art forms and media are allowed. Out of the large list of great seminars, exhibitions and performances, the musical events are the most tempting. In its third year, the festival prides itself on its better Belfast-born musicians, but it also opens its doors to the newest outsider genius. The TRANS:MISSION sessions at the Waterfront will gather more than 20 bands in three days, deserving special mention And so I watch you from afar and Panama Kings (10th July). Ebony Bones! (15th July) head the list of guests coming from overseas. The multicolour sound of Ebony Thomas’ electronic post-punk music has aroused the ovations of the critics since her first single, We know all about you. Now you can taste the live result of this self-taught singer’s vocation in her Irish debut, introducing her up-coming first album: Bone of my bones. To live up to the multimedia nature of the trans festival, Light surgeons (25th) present a musical show where jazz, folk and hip-hop electronic fusion is mixed with documentary film, photography and animation - a show for the ear and for the eye. For the DJs rules followers, Massive Attack's performance will be the highlight of the festival (25th). And for the songs with unexpected-endings lovers, the Micachu and the shapes' show (31st) is an unavoidable date. Polyvalent Mica Levi’s pop album Jewellery is also surprising, considering the fact she had written a piece for the London Philharmonic Orchestra at just 21–years-old. Her mix tape “Kwesachu” can be downloaded from her Myspace. If you hear it you will understand why seeing her live must be an unpredictable and astonishing musical event. The Ulster Hall offers several weekends of contrasts. On Saturdays the venue will challenge the audience to unload all their energies to the rhythm of electronic shocks. Documenta (25th), one of the guests for the Ulster Hall Saturdays party, is also one of the newest emerging groups the Trans festival has invited. Documenta will delight the public with their first performance while their first album, Drone pop #1, is being prepared. After the shake of the Saturday, a quiet Sunday could be a good idea. What about folk and blues at the Ulster Hall? If you are looking for a really special concert, taste the Ruby Colley violin, a magical instrument that can manage all genres, from folk to avant rock, without forgetting some contemporary classical (5th). And for the best indie experience, the limelight is the place to be. The Indie Takeaway TwoStep night featuring the Cuttaways is exactly what it seems: the audience will be allowed to chose the songs they have liked the most at the concert and take home their customized compilation in a CD. The Trans Festival will run from 4th to 31st July. Have a look to the official website to see the whole program and the videoclips of the best groups.
