The Big Gig is the monthly club in Ormeau Avenue’s Spring & Airbrake showcasing some of the finest new and established bands that the North & South of Ireland has to offer. This month a special showcase event will take place in the form of the Big Gigs dedicated Metal and Punk Night at the start of October. Featuring at this very special event will be the irrepressible Residual Effect, the unfathomable The Lobotomies, and the ferocious Gacy's Threads. The bands will be taking to the stage at this one off special event on Friday 2 October in the Spring and Airbrake. Metal megaliths Residual Effect have been praised in every metal magazine to get within their volume radius, which is staggeringly wide. Forceful and relevant, their fast, heavy and spine liquefying brand of punchy metal puts them in the upper echelons of the metal fraternity, and the band prove why this is so at every given opportunity. Having shared the stage with metal legends such as Soulfly and Raging Speedhorn, Residual Effect continues to rip apart the Irish metal scene limb from limb. The Lobotomies are fast and frantically thrashing punk from Belfast. Their music is seared with melodic diversity and unabashed political ranting, staring wildly through focussed eyes at the heady world they occupy. The Lobotomies' driving DIY hardcore punk is as inspiring as it is brazen and has no room for compromise. The band are known for their wild performances no-holds-barred approach and are a must-see live act. Gacy's Threads embody the best attributes of any metalcore band. Technically gifted and ferocious in delivery, this relatively new outfit are one of the most exciting prospects in the Irish metal scene. With support slots backing up bands such as Cancer Bats and F*CKED UP, Gacy's Threads are ones to watch as they continue their breakneck journey to the top of their food chain. The Big List's Big Gig Metal and Punk Night takes place on Friday October 2, in the Spring in Airbrake, as always, door admission is £4 and doors open at 9.00pm.
