If you're anything like me, and I'm sure you are – being a human being and all – then you notice details. That's the difference between good and great. So there I am, sat in Belfast's city centre with classic blues music sweeping through the air of an Italian style pizzeria as an oven the size of a medium sized igloo spews out heat and flame. Little Wing Pizzeria located just off Corn Market is Belfast's newest restaurant, and promises to whisk you away from the giant metal onion rings that plague that particular plaza with some authentic Italian delight. Not the Berlusconi style Italian delight mind. Our pizzas arrive senza knives and forks, and instead we're forced to use our provided pizza cutters and muddy our hands in the meal. I found it a great little touch, adding a garlic-tinged breath of informality to the meal. The restaurant is full of such details, even the condiment tray for the table is an elegant addition with a choice of fine olive oil, chilli oil, chilli flakes or oregano to choose from. I decided to go all-out Italian with anchovies, black olives and capers to bedazzle my pizza, while my lunch partner opted for some more forthright hot pepperoni, chillies and peppery rocket. What I found most surprising was the fact that it was no surprise this was the best pizza I've ever had. The pizza dough, which has apparently been thoroughly researched for authenticity, was magnificent. The toppings were generous and fresh, and watching the meal come together in the clearly visible kitchen is an enjoyable event in itself. Apparently they are offering breakfast – such as bacon, egg and maple syrup – wrapped in the pizza dough along with big slices – Newyork style – around bar closing time.
