To celebrate the 11th Belfast Film festival, and the treats contained therein, The Big List is giving away sets of tickets to three very exciting movies. The festival, which runs from March 31 to April 14, is showing more independent and cult movies than ever before in myriad new and innovative venues. But we at the Big List are giving you the chance to win tickets to three fascinating productions that are sure to tickle your musical nerves. The screening of Upside Down: The Creation Records Story is set to be extra special, as Director Danny O’Connor and former Oasis and Libertines manager Alan McGee will be in attendance to introduce the movie and do a Q&A after the screening. The film charts the label's turbulent journey during the 80s, when Alan McGee’s Creation Records were ‘Doing It For The Kids’ and the bands he signed were ‘The Patron Saints of Teenage’. The Creation label still holds legendary status, having embraced the initial releases by The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream and the revered My Bloody Valentine. However, the phenomenal success of Oasis in the mid-90s saw a cosying up to New Labour and a background of near-bankruptcy, hard partying, bitter feuds, sell-out accusations, heavy drugs and nervous breakdowns. McGee, with the help of key players at Creation, puts his side of the story in Danny O’Connor’s brilliant, passionate and significant documentary, which does justice to arguably the last British indie label to really matter. Upside Down, the Creation Records Story is screening at 8.30pm on Friday 1st April at QFT, and there will be an after party in the Menagerie. Then on Sunday April 3, we're giving you the chance to see Search and Destroy, which follows a young Iggy Pop as he goes to London in 1972 to make what was supposed to be his first solo album. Instead, he effectively re-forms his old band, the Stooges, and records a monumental work, which would come to be known as the game changing, Raw Power. Search and Destroy is the latest from music-doc ace Morgan Neville – one of the premier chroniclers of 20th-century American music. Lastly, for the nostalgia addicts, you could be the lucky winner of two tickets to Dougal and the Blue Cat. The Magic Roundabout became so popular in the late sixties that this feature film was released in the UK in 1972. With some weird French songs and genuinely frightening moments, its French art movie tone and British comedy script will undoubtedly provide a mind-bending experience. Dougal and the Blue Cat screens at 3.30pm on Saturday 2nd April at QFT. The Big List has two pairs of tickets to give away for each of these shows, so to be in with a chance to win, simply send your answer to the following question to win@thebiglist.co.uk and include your name and postal address, and put your choice of film you'd like to win tickets for in the subject field.
What's the name of Oasis' debut album?
