Northern Irish crime and horror writer, Gerard Brennan, has won the impressive accolade of inclusion in a highly respected collection of UK crime writers.
The Mammoth Book of Best British Crime has showcased some of the best emerging writers of the genre alongside tales from renowned crime heavyweights.
Now prolific local writer, Gerard Brennan, whose literary standing has been soaring through the echelons while still in it's relative infancy, has been given the official nod of approval with his short story Hard Rock – focused on one chilling night in the life of a venturesome rock star.
Gerard joins two other established writers hailing from the Island of Ireland included in the work, namely Declan Burke and Colin Bateman.
The Irish and Northern Irish contingent is amongst exceptional company as the collection also sports celebrated science fiction and crime writer, Ian Rankin, with an unexpected comeback of his infamous Inspector Rebus, along with creator of the The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series, Alexander McCall Smith and 'Tartan Noir' novelist, Christopher Brookmyre.
The annual roundup, edited by Maxim Jakubowski, features a variety of short crime stories ranging from noir and hardboiled to ingenious mysteries and inglorious sleuths.
The Big List managed to catch up with Gerard Brennan for a quick interview about his selection for the anthology, along with his recent novel The Wee Rockets, novella The Point, signing with a formidable literary agent and editing his own compilation, Requiem for the Departed.
