Got 2D For Northern Ireland Comics Festival?
Some of the world’s best talent in the comic book industry will make their way to Londonderry next week for 2D - the Northern Ireland Comics Festival.
The completely free event is hosted annually by the Verbal Arts Centre. Running from June 2 - 4 it is the biggest of its kind in Northern Ireland.
This will be the fifth issue of the event in the city and organisers say this year’s event is the "biggest and best to date", having secured some of the most respected names in the comics industry.
Guests include legendary artists such as Mick McMahon (Judge Dredd), Glenn Fabry (Preacher, Slaine) and Mike Collins (Dr Who, Superman) as well as a host of other comic creators who have worked on titles such as Transformers, Batman, Star Wars, Spiderman, Gorillaz, Game of Thrones and the Beano.
This year also welcomes one of the most influential men in the comics world, Mark Chiarello of DC Comics Art Direction. Aspiring creators will also be thrilled to learn that Mark will be giving an insight into the industry and, more importantly, hosting a series of portfolio reviews.
The organisers are asking budding comic artists to get in touch with the festival to take advantage of the opportunity, which could lead to a foot in the door of the comics industry.
Among other festival highlights is the 2D Comics Fair on Satuday June 4, and those attending can buy comics, meet top comic creators, get free sketches of their favourite character, have a Robot version of themselves drawn at the ‘Hi Robot’ booth, or get their face painted as their favourite character.
Attendees can also enter in the Mario Bros and Moshi Monsters drawing competitions, the Fancy Dress competition or have a go on our ‘Robot Drawing Wall’, with comic prizes for the best efforts.
Festival goers can also have their photo taken with the Star Wars Stormtroopers, as the Emerald Garrison will be in attendance.
The festival caters for all ages with workshops and drawing events during the daytime and panel talks in Sandinos bar on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th June evenings from 6.30pm.
