Queing For Q-Con
What is about NI's fascination with Japanese culture? Is it vicarious escapism through their animated stylisation? Is it the cultural contrasts between the nations, or is it just because anime just looks cool?
Whatever the reason, we can't seem to get enough of it, which is why the annual gaming convention Q-Con is back for it's 18th year.
Hosted by the Queen's University Belfast Dragonslayers Society, this year's Q-Con is expected to exceed last year's 1300 enthusiasts with a weekend of yet more games events and anime appreciation, from the 24th-26th June 2011.
As usual, Q-Con will feature a massive selection of games and events over the convention weekend, with role-playing and board games, collectible card and console exhibitions, anime screenings, 'cosplay' (dressing up in anime costumes), special events and guests, exclusive merchandise and much more.
There will also be a large number of competitions for gamers, anime fans, and amateur artists.
A number of large events will also be taking place, including the legendary Rock Band Live on Stage, the Cosplay Masquerade, and the annual Warhammer national ranked tournament.
There are a number of industry guests booked for the weekend, such as the Beasts of War team, Mantic Games and Wee Man Studios - plus comic artist PJ Holden, with more to be announced soon.
Saturday night's rock club will return (following the traditional pub quiz), and a number of charity fund-raising events will be running throughout the weekend on behalf of QUB RAG - raising money for local charities.
For registration and information on all the games and events at Q-Con XVIII visit www.q-con.org.uk for more details. You can also follow the event on Facebook at www.facebook.com/QConBelfast.
