Marshall 'Matters' At T-Vital

by Gilli Kane

Over 40,000 festival-goers flocked to Bangor's Ward Park on Wednesday night to catch a live performance from American rapper Eminem.

Day two of Tennent's Vital saw Slim Shady blaze onto the stage through a flaming pit.
The hard-hitting wordsmith launched straight into action, getting the crowd onside with his angsty, expletive-riddled rhymes.
The stage set up was amazing - think HD, full-colour, big screen visuals, and a barrier of beat-up vintage cars separating Em from his posse.
Gunshot bangs and bloodbath imagery poured out from the stage as the Detroit-born star riled up the crowd with Kill You.
Em irradiated confidence as he swaggered across the 60m stage despite making a geographc boo-boo, inspiring the facebook page 'The awkward moment Eminem thinks he is in Belfast when he is in Bangor', which already has over 5,000 likes.
This didn't stop the crowds appreciation as Marshall Mathers bobbed and weaved as he spat out hit, after hit, after hit; well, following seven studio albums he's not short of material.
"It's my first time in Northern Ireland but I already feel at home," the 8 Mile actor said.
The old school medley of My Name Is / The Real Slim Shady / Without Me brought fans of his early material back, while newer hits from the Recovery album such as Not Afraid, No Love and Space Bound kept the younger members of the audience in the loop.
The atmosphere was electric or perhaps everyone seemed high as Em asked "if anyone was under the influence" before showercap clad Bizarre and the rest of the D-12 gang descended upon the stage for Purple Pills .
The rapper dropped Lose Yourself for the encore with the entire park doing just that.
I'm sure people will be sitting in Wolseys for years to come reminiscing about the night Eminem came to town.
