by Gilli KaneAnyone going to see Example has to be prepared to bounce. No sitting, no aimless standing, no half hearted toe tapping just wait until the thumping four-to-the-floor beats kicks in and jump. Elliot 'Example' Gleave brought his brand of bass driven dance-pop to a capacity crowd at the Ulster Hall towards the end of November. Punters defrosted from the first track as the 29-year-old burst on stage rapping, singing and taunting the hall as to whether they seemed 'up for it' enough. Perhaps the energy was too much for the crowd or a few toes got crunched on as Example felt the need to set down some ground rules. "There's been at least four fights at my gig so far. You don't come to my show to fight - you come to bounce," he said. Hands where pointed to the sky and you could feel the floor pulsate as chart hits including Changed the Way You Kiss Me, Won't Go Quietly and Stay Awake rang out. His latest track Midnight Run, united everyone in a trance singalong but it was the album title track Playing In The Shadows produced by Chase & Status with its acoustic guitar and slithering bass that stood out. After the gig Example tweeted: "About five fights during the show tonight. Belfast you lunatics. Other than that a great night for music and flashing lights". Example will be back in Belfast playing the Odyssey Arena on Thursday 3rd May 2012 as part of his first arena tour. (GK/BMcC)
