Two British soldiers killed in Baghdad car crash
Two British soldiers have been killed in a car accident in Baghdad, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed today.
The pair, Major James Stenner, 30, of the Welsh Guards, and Sergeant Norman Patterson, 28, of the Cheshire Regiment, were killed following a road traffic accident in Baghdad early on 1 January.
Major Stenner was married and came from Monmouthshire. Sergeant Patterson was single and came from Staffordshire.
It is understood that both men were members of the SAS as neither the Welsh Guards nor the Cheshire Regiment are on operational duty in Iraq at the moment. Almost all British troops in Iraq are stationed to the south of Baghdad – mostly around the city of Basra.
Their deaths brings to 55 the number of British military personnel killed in Iraq since the beginning of hostilities in March last year.

Four ex-British soldiers killed in Baghdad bomb attack
Four former British soldiers, employed as private security guards in Iraq, have been killed in a mortar attack, it has emerged today. It was reported that the Nepalese nationals died in a mortar attack on Baghdad's secure Green Zone yesterday. The bomb is believed to have landed inside their encampment.

Iraq police report finding 30 corpses at two sites
In the last two days police in Iraq have found 35 corpses at two sites; one find was in a field in the west of the country near to Qaim, the other at a former army base to the south of Baghdad.

Ten US soldiers killed in Baghdad attacks
Ten American soldiers have been killed and four wounded in attacks by insurgents in Iraq. Eight soldiers died in a car bomb attack in the Mahmudiya district of south Baghdad, around 11:30 am local time (7:30 am GMT). A US military spokesman confirmed the soldiers were US Army personnel. Two other American soldiers have also been killed in Iraq.

Death toll in Iraq terror bombings rises to over 180
The death toll in the terror outrages in Karbala and Baghdad yesterday morning has risen to 182, following the bloodiest day Iraq has seen since the end of the war last May. Almost 500 people were injured after coordinated attacks were made against Shi'ite Muslims who were observing the festival of Ashura - the holiest day of the sect's calendar.

US soldier killed in Baghdad explosion
A US soldier has been killed and two others injured following a bomb attack in the Iraqi capital Baghdad yesterday. The soldier, from the 4th Infantry Division, was killed when an improvised device exploded near the Ba’qubah police station at around 9:45pm.
