Two British soldiers killed in Iraq
Two British soldiers have been killed in a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
The soldiers, from the multi-national division southeast area, died around 11:30 local time (08:30 BST) from injuries sustained in the blast, which occurred in the Basra province in southern Iraq.
It was reported that the soldiers had been travelling in an armoured Land Rover, when the bomb exploded, around five miles east of the Shaibah airbase.
The airbase, which is located about 10 miles southwest of Basra, is the British logistics headquarters for Operation Telic.
Details of the soldiers’ names and regiments have not yet been released. The MoD said that their next of kin are being informed.
Defence Secretary John Reid said: "I would like to offer my sympathy and personal condolences to the families of the two service personnel who lost their lives in Iraq. It is deeply tragic that they have been killed whilst carrying out their duty."
The latest deaths bring the total number of military personnel killed in Iraq to 94, since hostilities began in March 2003.

Private Ben Ford, 18, and Private Damian Wright, 23, were both from the 2nd Battallion The Mercian Regiment. They were taking part in a routine reassurance patrol when the WMIK Landrover vehicle they were travelling in was caught in an explosion.

A British soldier has been killed in Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. The soldier, from 1st Battalion The Light Infantry, died following an attack on a Multi National Force base in Basra City. A mortar round exploded within the perimeter of the base at around 0300 local time, the MoD said.

Three British soldiers killed in Afghanistan
Three British soldiers have been killed in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. A fourth soldier was seriously injured. The MoD said that the troops were part of the 4,000-strong Nato-led International Security Assistance Force on patrol in the volatile Helmand Province around 0630 GMT when they were attacked.
