Injured Woman Mystery

There's no indication yet as to how a woman, aged in her late 40s or early 50s, was found at the Killyman Road in the early hours of Monday morning with head injuries. She was discovered on a road near Dungannon in Co Tyrone and was taken to Craigavon Hospital where her condition is described critical. Police are investigating how she was injured. The area between Killymeal Road and Bush Road has been closed. Police have appealed to anyone who might have seen anything to come forward.

Join PSNI Says Board

Members of the Northern Ireland Policing Board are encouraging people to apply to join the PSNI as the recently launched recruitment campaign reaches the halfway point. Speaking about the campaign, the 16th launched by the PSNI since 2001, Chairman of the Board, Barry Gilligan said: "I would encourage people from all sections of our society to apply for these posts. They will be challenging and there are those who want to drag us back to the past. However, this is a great opportunity to not only serve the community but to also help shape the public's views and perception of the policing service," he said noting that the campaign has been running for just over two weeks and over 5,300 requests for application forms have been received.

Bloody Sunday Call For Report

Sinn Féin Chief Negotiator and Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness has addressed the annual Londonderry Bloody Sunday Rally which marks the death of 14 people and the wounding of many more by the Army's Parachute Regiment. Mr McGuinness addressed the rally at the point in William Street at which the original march was blocked by troops and said it is time that the long-awaited Saville Inquiry report be published without delay.

Tyrone Robbers 'Local'

It has emerged that the men who attacked a well-known businessman from Co Tyrone, leaving him with serious head injuries after he and his wife were attacked in their own home at the weekend were locals. Two men, one armed with a handgun, the other with a baseball bat, forced their way into the couple's house on the Mullybannon Road near Moygashel, Dungannon at 10pm on Friday night. Police say the robbers, who made off with a sum of cash, spoke with local accents but were disguised with gloves and balaclavas. DUP assemblyman, Maurice Morrow, said the couple who are both in their sixties suffered a "terrifying ordeal".

Judge Named

The Queen has appointed Patricia Mary Smyth to be a County Court judge in Northern Ireland. The judge was sworn into office before Sir Declan Morgan, the Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland, on 1 February. She studied at Queen's University, Belfast and was called to the Bar in September 1986. Mrs Smyth practised as a barrister between 1986 and 2002. She practised in a wide variety of areas within the legal profession such as criminal law, civil law and employment law. In 1998 she was appointed fee paid Chairman of the Industrial Tribunals and Fair Employment Tribunal. In 2002 she was appointed salaried Chairman of the Industrial Tribunals and Fair Employment Tribunal and in 2007 she was appointed Vice President of the Industrial Tribunals and Fair Employment Tribunal.
