British soldier killed in Iraq named
The Ministry of Defence has named the soldier killed in Iraq on Tuesday as Corporal Matthew Cornish.
The 29-year-old, who served with 1st Battalion The Light Infantry, died as a result of wounds sustained in a mortar attack on a UK military base in Basra in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Cpl Cornish, whose nickname was 'Pastie', grew up in Yorkshire and was married to wife, Abby, with whom he had two children - Ethan, 3, and one-year-old Libby.
Cpl Cornish began his army career in Cyprus and served in Northern Ireland, Sierra Leone and Iraq. He was on his third tour of the country at the time of his death.
Cpl Cornish's father, Robin, told 'The Sun' newspaper that he was proud of his son, whom he said: "lived for his family and spoiled his children".
Lieutenant-Colonel Johnny Bowron, his commanding officer, said: "Matthew was a great soldier, a fine friend and a marvellous husband and father. He will be remembered for his heart and his great character."
Three British soldiers were also killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday. They have not yet been named.

Manchester Airport Announces £1bn Expansion
A £1 billion ten year plan to redevelop Manchester Airport has been announced. Plans include to expand Terminal Two along with improvements to Terminal Three. It is understood a new security hall, increased self-service check-in facilities and additional stands for aircraft will be developed along with new shops and restaurants.

Police Hunt 'Pig's Head' Vandals
A former chapel which is being converted into an Asian community centre has been the target of an attack. A pig's head was nailed to the door of the former Methodist chapel, near Carnons Downs at the weekend. Police are describing the incident as racist.

Stranded Dolphins Die In Cornish River
More than 20 common dolphins have died after after they became stranded in a Cornish river. A rescue operation is underway to save further dolphins from swimming too far upstream and becoming beached. The dolphins' distress cries are believed to encouraged further dolphins to travel upstream.
