Body Dissidents Suspects Held

As another two people, a man aged 38 and a 25-year-old woman were arrested in Armagh city on Sunday morning, two men arrested on Thursday in connection with the same operation have now been charged with possession of explosives. One of them has also been charged with possession of items likely to be of use to terrorists and both are expected to appear in court on Monday. Two men aged 24 and a 45-year-old woman who were arrested on Saturday were last night still being questioned by police. They were detained as part of the overall operation against suspected dissident republican activity in the Armagh area.

Robbers Shoot Victim

Two masked and armed robbers shot a man in Co Armagh at the weekend after they entered a house in the Gullion View area of Meigh. They demanded money from the man before shooting him twice in the legs. The men left empty-handed and are believed to have made off in a vehicle. It happened shortly before 9pmon Saturday, with the injured man taken to Daisy Hill hospital in Newry where he is said to be in a stable condition.

West Belfast Alerts

There were two security alerts in west Belfast at the weekend. One, on the Ballymurphy Road yesterday saw a number of homes evacuated and the road had been closed following the discovery of a suspicious object. It was later declared a hoax. That incident followed one at the Kennedy Centre in the Falls Road area which was evacuated on Saturday morning during an alert which was also later declared a hoax.

Roads Tragedies

Just weeks after police 'celebrated' the month of February passing without fatalities on NI roads, two women have died following separate road accidents - one in Northern Ireland and one in the Irish Republic. Angela McKee, who was 37 and from Lisburn, died after her car crashed on the Moira Road near Maghaberry at about 3.45pm on Saturday. Later, a Co Fermanagh woman in her 60s died after her car rolled forward and hit her near Belturbet in Co Cavan.

Serious Road Crash In L'Derry
A serious road crash has occurred on the Chapel Road in L'Derry. A car and a motorbike where involved in the incident, according to the police. One man, believed to be a teenager, has been taken to hospital where his injuries are believed to be serious. The road has been closed at its junctions with Newlyn Terrace and Spencer Road.

Man Dies In Workplace Accident In Co Armagh
A man has died in a workplace accident in Co Armagh. It is believed the man was crushed by a road roller while a new road surface was being laid on the Bog Road, Forkhill, on Wednesday, 31 May. Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation.
