Derry goes on show at global travel exhibition
Representatives of Derry Visitor and Convention Bureau are to promote the city and surrounding region at the forthcoming World Travel Market in London.
Catherine O’Connor, Manager of Derry Visitor and Convention Bureau said that with all the recent developments in the city, she was confident that the city would be a popular choice with the travel trade.
She said: “There has been major regeneration in the city centre over the past number of years helping to make Derry a city that is lively, youthful, vibrant and attractive to tourists. The benefits we have witnessed have come through the provision of new services at the City of Derry Airport, growth in the provision of hotel and bed and breakfast accommodation, an increase in coach visitors, success of visiting cruise vessels and the expansion of the city’s cultural quarter.”
Ms O’Connor continued: “Once completed these hotels will add to the excellent accommodation, top quality leisure facilities and conference facilities we have to offer. The B&B market remains an important element in the North West’s tourism product mix and is continuing to develop. Expansion in the cultural sector has seen major regeneration at cultural centres such as the Millennium Forum, the Playhouse, the Verbal Arts Centre and Nerve Centre, all located within the city’s Walled City.”

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.

St Patrick's Day event has support of BCC says councillor
The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.

Finn Harps Captain Kevin McHugh Severs Finger
Former Derry City footballer Kevin McHugh has had surgery on his finger after his wedding ring got caught in a fence. The Finn Harps club captain said he was chasing after a football when the incident occurred. He tweeted a photo of the injury and wrote: "Think that's my season over."
