Man killed on railway track in Antrim

A man has been killed when he was hit by a train on the railway line between Antrim and Ballymena.

Fifty passengers were on board the train when the incident happened shortly before 8pm on Thursday November 1 on the track outside Antrim at Drumsough.

Rail services in the area were suspended while an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident was carried out. The line was re-opened late on Thursday night, with a bus service operating for the duration of the closure.

A Translink spokesperson said they would be working very closely with the RUC in order to establish what happened but added an internal investigation was also under way. She said: "Our thoughts are with the railway driver and staff and more so our thoughts are with the family of the individual who has died."

The police have confirmed a male is deceased, but has not yet been named. (AMcE)
