Mayor Of Newtownabbey Condemns Attack On Police

The Mayor of Newtownabbey and Alliance Councillor Billy Webb has condemned those responsible for injuring a police officer in Newtownabbey.

A device was thrown at the police, injuring an officer, as they responded to an alarm call at a toy store in the Mill Road area in the early hours of the morning.

Cllr Billy Webb said he was "absolutely appalled" at the brutality of the attack and that his thoughts are with the injured officer.

He added: "This was a cold and cowardly attack and there is revulsion in the community at news of this.

"We owe the police massive gratitude for the courage they show in their work and they should be allowed to go about their vital work without fear of attacks like this.

"Anyone with information on this incident must contact police immediately to help ensure that those involved in this can be brought to justice."
