Police investigate vicious overnight attacks

Three people have been treated in hospital after a gang of masked men armed with machetes, knives and baseball bats attacked them in a house in County Antrim.

The gang of seven or eight men, one of whom may have had a handgun, entered a house on Friday August 17 at Donegore Drive in Antrim and forced the seven occupants to lie on the floor.

An 18-year-old sustained machete slashes to his left arm, hand and leg. A woman needed stitches for a head wound and a man received staples to a hand wound. The man and the woman were both in their 30s. The police are appealing for information on the attack.

Meanwhile 4 masked men forced their way into a flat in Maralin Avenue in Lisburn shortly before 11pm on Thursday August 16.

One of the occupants of the house was taken to the stairway and beaten with wooden batons where he suffered bruising to his upper body, legs and arms. Three others in the flat at the time were unharmed.

The police in Lisburn are investigating the incident and appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Police are also investigating a shooting incident in Craigavon, Co Armagh, where a number of shots were fired at a house in the West Acres area of the town. Police have recovered an air rifle and a shotgun after a follow-up search on waste ground on the Lake Road in Craigavon.

Nobody was injured in the attack, which happened at around 12.20am on Friday morning. (AMcE)
