Foreign bid for Belfast International Airport’s parent
French construction firm Vinci are believed to have made an offer for leading airport operator TBI.
If the move is successful it will mean that a foreign company will own Belfast International Airport, which is a part of the TBI group, for the first time.
TBI, which is a public quoted company with a listing on the London Stock Exchange, have numerous other interests and operations around the world including Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Costa Rica, England, Sweden, the USA and Wales.
While Vinci does not have a presence in the UK airport sector they are believed to have acquired a 14.9 per cent stake in TBI. They are also considering making a cash offer for all of TBI at around 90 pence per share, valuing the company at just over £500 million.
Vinci currently employs about 7,000 people in the UK on a range of projects including a contract to maintain bridges over the River Severn. (MB)

Man Arrested For Headbutting Female Police Officer
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Newry for assaulting a police officer. While responding to a domestic related report, a local female officer was headbutted to the head, which caused swelling and bruising. The officer was seen by medical staff and her injuries were not more serious and she felt well enough to remain on duty.
