Businesses Can Help Prepare Young People For The World Of Work

The Education Minister, John O’Dowd, recently met with members of the Institute of Directors (IoD) to discuss the impact of education on the economy.

The Minister met with Mervyn McCall, Chairman of the IoD and members of the Institute’s Education and Skills Committee.

Speaking following the meeting, the Minister said: "Education and business have a joint role in preparing our young people for the world of work. Equipping our school leavers with the skills needed by business can help drive the economy in a positive direction.

"The Executive made a commitment to improve literacy and numeracy among school leavers and my Department is firmly committed to raising standards and tackling underachievement in our schools. The IoD has been very supportive of my Department’s work so far."
