FERGUSON FITNESS BOOST FOR LINFIELD VS GEORGIA MATCH

LINFIELD striker Glenn Ferguson has declared himself fit to face Georgia’s Torpedo Kutaisi on Wednesday in the first round, second leg Champions League qualifier in Georgia.

The Northern Ireland international missed training on Saturday because of a slight hamstring pull, however Linfield manager David Jeffrey expects Ferguson to be able to take his place in Kutaisi.

The Blues go into the game as underdogs after last Wednesday's first leg ended in a 0-0 draw. However, a win or score draw is necessary if they are go through and face FC Copenhagen in the second round qualifying tie.

Meanwhile, the Irish League's traditional curtain-raiser, the Charity Shield, has been scrapped after sponsors, Wilkinson Sword, confirmed they would be withdrawing their support for this year’s showcase.

This year’s Charity Shield match was to be played between Irish League Champions, Linfield, and Irish Cup holders, Glentoran at Windsor Park. (MB)
