‘RADICAL’ ARTS PLAN WINS INCREASED FUNDING
ARTS Council Executive, Roisin McDonough, has welcomed the government’s commitment of an additional £337,000 to support the Council’s new arts plan which was launched this week.
The Council’s new plan aims to increase opportunities for artists; strengthen the arts infrastructure; engage with the community arts; engage with voluntary arts; increase access for disabled people; enhance young people’s access; and increase audiences for the arts.
Ms McDonough said: “Our plan involves a radical realignment of support. It has the backing of government and it puts the arts at the centre of the region’s life in an era of change and growth.”
Spelling out the values which underly the role of the arts in society she added: “The arts enrich our lives, they power creativity and self-fulfilment, building confidence and inspiring hope in communities. We believe the arts can fuel the regeneration of communities and of society.
“In the Programme for Government, Unlocking Creativity, DCAL’s own five-year strategy and the FutureSearch symposium, the recognition of the power of the imagination to transform environments, create employment and restore confidence is clear and central.
“Our plan focuses that vision squarely on the arts and places them at the heart of endeavours to create a new Northern Ireland.”
After 18 months in review and consultation, The Arts: inspiring the imagination, building the future details the values, priorities and objectives agreed by the Arts Council with both the arts sector and the Executive. (MB)

Crescent Arts Centre Restoration Complete
The newly refurbished Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast has been re-opened, following an 18-month restoration project. The £7.2m scheme involved a refurbishment and restoration, which has preserved the exterior façade of the Grade II listed building. The refurbished centre includes an extension that increases the accommodation by approximately 900m2.

Latest City Of Culture News Released
The newest details of the L’Derry City of Culture events programme have been revealed by the Arts Council in Northern Ireland. The news follows an investment of £1m in 18 new arts projects. The funding will support local arts organisations in new artistic ventures, including theatre productions, live music, dance performances and the visual arts.
