University Issue St. Patrick's Day Warning

Students have been warned that the could face a criminal record and be suspended from university if they get out of control on St. Patrick’s Day this weekend.

The University of Ulster (UU) has issued further warnings to its students in a bid to deter any trouble flaring as the festivities get underway on Saturday.

Last year disruption flared in the Holylands area of Belfast, which has a high student population. Eight people were arrested in the area for disorderly behaviour, criminal damage or assault.

The University has recorded a video message and sent it all its students outlining that they will not tolerate anymore anti-social behaviour from students.

Speaking during the recorded message University of Ulster’s Vice Chancellor Professor Richard Barnett said: "In recent years we have to accept that a small minority of our students have let down the university, have let down themselves and let down their families through their anti-social behaviour on St Patrick's Day.

"I have to say enough is enough. We will not tolerate any more of this anti-social behaviour.

"If any of you are involved in anti-social behaviour this year I will ensure that the university's disciplinary procedures are brought in swiftly and severely.”
