GCSE Results Up Slightly In NI, Bucking National Trend
Students across Northern Ireland picked up their GCSE results today.
And in contrast to the national trend of grades dipping, the region's 32,000 16-year-olds achieved a slight improvement on last year's results.
A* to C grades have gone up by a small margin to 75.6% compared to the national UK average which has fallen to 68.4%.
27.9% of pupils got at least one A* or A grade.
In Northern Ireland only 1% did not get any pass grade.
About 658,000 students in England, Wales and NI are receiving results.
The number of GCSE students in Northern Ireland schools has been reducing, year on year, because of a population slump.
However, the number of pupils staying on to sixth form is rising. In 2007, 54.7% of pupils stayed on, but that rose to 66.3% in 2011.
Education minister John O'Dowd visited Ashfield Boys' High School and St Louise's Comprehensive College in Belfast where he had the opportunity to speak to pupils receiving their results.
He said: "The results achieved by our young people today are the product of hard work over many years and I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to all involved. I appreciate that not everyone will have got the grades they were hoping for and I would urge those young people not to panic. Your teachers, parents and careers advisers are all there to guide and support you and they can help you decide on what career and study options are available to you."

NI A-Level Grades Rise Slightly
There has been a slight increase in the amount of Northern Ireland students achieving the A* - C grade in this year's A levels, the Department of Education has said. The number rose to 83.7% from 83.5% in 2013. There was also a slight increase in the percentage of entries being awarded the top A* grade, rising from 7.2% last year to 7.3% in 2014.

NI students post best-ever GCSE results
Northern Ireland's GCSE students have once again improved on the performance of previous years, with almost 98% of candidates achieving pass grades. This year saw 68% of candidates gaining the top three grades, which is a 1.4% rise on last year's mark.
