Obel Building Transformed Into Pint Of Guinness

Residents of Belfast may have been surprised yesterday evening to find an unfamiliar addition to their city’s skyline: a massive pint of Guinness.

One of the most famous buildings in Belfast, the Obel, was last night transformed into a symbol of one of the most popular beers in the world in celebration of the Arthur’s Day.

The publicitiy stunt by Guinness, which is owned by drinks conglomerate Diageo, was achieved by organising the building’s residents to switch off their lights and create the black body of the famous stout.

Those apartments located at the top of the building left their lights on, creating the effect of Guinness's white head and turning the whole building into a mock-up of the iconic beer.

Arthur’s Day is marketed by Guinness to celebrate the anniversary of Arthur Guinness, the man who created the now famous Dublin tipple. The annual event is celebrated over the world, with countries as far flung as France, the Caribbean nations and Japan getting involved.

This year, bars and pubs across Belfast and Northern Ireland will be hosting live music and gigs throughout the province.

Guinness have confirmed that a vast array of local bands will be playing at this year’s event, along with performances from internationally recognised artists such as Primal Scream, Tinie Tempah, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Fatboy Slim.

Arthur’s Day 2012 is scheduled for 27 September, and will see a huge push by the company to further popularise their already widely recognised brand.
