Police Officers Accused Over Public Misconduct

Two PSNI officers are due to stand trial over accusations of abusing the trust of the public.

A Belfast court has ruled that Gail Proctor and Adrian Brown should be charged over misconduct in a public place.

Both accused were listed as having a "PSNI default address". Their ages were not made available to the court.

Adrian Brown is being accused of coaching a witness while they were giving public evidence, while Gail Proctor faces charges of neglect of duty by lying to a court.

It is alleged that the offences occurred in Belfast on March 5, 2010.

No further details of the allegations have been disclosed.

Preliminary inquiry proceedings got underway at Belfast Magistrates Court yesterday.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall said she was satisfied both accused have a case to answer.

Proctor and Brown appeared at court following prosecution summons, and both officers declined to give evidence or call witnesses at this stage.

The judge granted a prosecution application to have them returned for trial on a future debt, yet to be fixed.

Both accused were released on continuing bail until that hearing gets under way.
