Nominations Urged For Military Health Service Awards

Northern Ireland’s Health Minister is urging health service and military personnel to begin nominating for the UK-wide Military and Civilian Health Partnership (MCHP) Awards.

Edwin Poots made the announcement as he launched the Awards in Northern Ireland.

The Awards are intended to "honour the people, projects and initiatives that provide serving military personnel, their families and service veterans with the very best in healthcare and social care."

The process is open to civilian health staff and military medics working within Health and Social Care, Defence Medical Services, and private or voluntary sectors.

Minister Poots said: "We are all greatly indebted to our Armed Forces for their exceptional commitment and selflessness in putting their own lives at risk to protect others. I feel privileged that in the very near future, I will have the opportunity to visit 204 (North Irish) Field Hospital (Volunteers) as they undertake the final part of their pre-deployment training."

He urged all eligible candidates for the MCHP Awards to come forward to nominate themselves or others.

He said: "There are many examples of the outstanding achievement of health and social care professionals supporting our troops at war as well as providing a wide range of services for our military personnel at home. These teams and individuals deserve to have their contribution recognised, and this process is the perfect opportunity to do this."

The 2013 awards ceremony will be held on 21 May and is being hosted by the Welsh Government.
