Snow Warning Issued To Motorists

The Roads Service has issued a warning to all Northern Ireland motorists to be aware of hazardous conditions following substantial snow showers over night.

Up to four inches of snow has fallen in many parts, particularly on higher ground.

All main through routes are currently passable with care, while salting has been carried out over night and is on-going.

The worst effected areas are :

- Newry

- A4 Ballygawley Road

- A2 Coleraine Mountain Road

- A36 Shaws Hill Road

- A26 Coleraine to Ballymena Road

- Ballycastle and the Glens within the Moyle area

- Keady area

- Moneyshane Area, Banbridge

- Craigavon

- A2 Bangor/Belfast Road

- A24 Ballynahinch/ Belfast Road

- Glengormely, Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus areas

- Craigantlet Hills, Castlereagh

Drivers have been advised to drive with caution especially when driving on untreated roads and to leave extra time for journeys.

It is to remain cold throughout the rest of the day, with strong winds, wintry showers and sleet expected for various parts of Northern Ireland.

Yellow Weather Warning Issued For Parts Of NI
A yellow weather warning for wind has been issued by the Met Office for parts of Northern Ireland on Wednesday, 31 January. The weather warning comes into effect at 9.00 am and is due to remain in place until 5.00 pm with warnings that it could impact travel, cause power outages and lead to large waves in coastal areas.

Warning Issued After Thousands Lost To Gift Card Scam
The PSNI have issued a warning after a L'Derry resident lost thousands of pounds in a gift card scam. According to police, the person was contacted online and told that they had won money. They were told they needed to send online gift cards to verify themselves. This continued for some time before the scam was spotted and stopped.

Appeal Issued After Spate Of Robberies In Coleraine
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a number of report of thefts in the Coleraine area. Police received a report that overnight on Friday, 24 February, someone had gained to a property in the Knockaduff Road area, taking away a scrambler motorbike and helmets.

Appeal Issued For Witnesses After Scrambler Hits Pet Dog In L'Derry
L'Derry PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses after a dog was hit by a person riding a scrambler motorcycle in Creggan Country Park on Tuesday, 13 February. The incident occurred at around 3pm when a man was walking along the pathway with his pet Poodle, towards Forest Park.
