Bangor Kidnapping: Man Arrested

Police have arrested a second man in connection with a kidnap and robbery in Bangor, County Down.

The 48-year-old's arrest follows the unconditional release of another man who was arrested in connection with the plot on Wednesday.

The incident began in Bangor on 17 January at 22:15, when a 52-year-old man was threatened by men in his home.

His 18-year-old son was taken to a vacant house in Beechmount Parade in Belfast at 04:00 the following morning, but managed to escape shortly before 09:30.

Two hours previous to the teenager’s escape, at about 07:00, money was passed to the driver of the family’s Renault Laguna at the Anchor Lodge filling station on the Ravenhill Road in south Belfast.

A cash-in-transit vehicle was in the forecourt at the time.

Police are also appealing for information about a dark grey Honda Civic car which may have stopped for a wheel change between Belfast and Bangor sometime during the incident.
