Woman Jailed Over False Rape Claim
A Co Antrim woman, who made a false rape claim against her ex-boyfriend after he ended their relationship, has been sentenced to three months in jail.
Natasha Foster, 23 and from Ballymena, told police two years ago that her partner had sexually attacked her. Two days later, she then confessed to having lied about the rape claim, the BBC has reported.
She was subsequently charged with perverting the course of justice, which she pleaded guilty to in September.
In court on Monday, the judge described Ms Foster's actions as "a mixture of impulsivity, anger, hurt and a sense of rejection".
He added that it was a difficult case when it came to deciding what was a fair and proportionate sentence, explaining that while a sentence of six months – if not longer – would be justified, Foster's sentence was reduced to three months.
The judge said mitigating factors, such as the accused's genuine remorse and the fact she was now a young mother, were involved in the decision.

The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of two people at Laganside Crown Court for a range of offences including grievous bodily harm with intent, threats to kill, common assault and possession of an offensive weapon. 26-year-old Dylan Black, from the Lisburn area, was sentenced to seven years in prison. He will serve three years on license.
