Ulster Bank Issues Resolved

Ulster Bank says it has resolved technical problems that left many of its customers unable to access basic services on Monday evening.

The glitch affected customers of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Group, which includes NatWest and Ulster Bank, with many account holders unable to use their debit or credit cards.

It also affected online services and smartphone apps.

Reports began from around 18:30 on 'Cyber Monday', which is traditionally the busiest day of the year for online shopping.

A statement was released by Ulster Bank on Tuesday morning. "The systems issues that affected our customers last night have now been resolved and all our services are now back working normally," it said.

"We would like to apologise to our customers. If anyone has been left out of pocket as a result of these systems problems, we will put this right.

"If any customer is experiencing issues this morning, they should get in touch with our call centres on 0800 046 6486 or come into a branch where our staff will be ready to help."

Ulster Bank says its online banking, mobile banking and payments systems are now all operational.

The meltdown follows a technical glitch in June last year, during which Ulster Bank customers were left without access to their bank accounts for weeks.

The bank ended up paying out £18m to almost 300,000 people in compensation.

An earlier issue in March left customers unable to access accounts, make online transactions or use bank cards for several hours.
