Pensioner attacked during burglary of her home

A 90-year-old woman was assaulted during a burglary of her home in Ballygowan, Co Down last night.

The woman was confronted by a teenager after hearing noise in her kitchen.

The youth then assaulted the elderly woman before escaping into an alley at the back of the house.

Police believe an accomplice then joined the assailant.

A sum of money was later found to be missing from the woman's bedroom.

Police Appeal After Man Dies In Castlewellan Collision
A man, aged in his 50s, has died in a collision in Castlewellan. The crash happened on the Carnreagh Road on Monday, 05 December, between 9.30am and 10am. The PSNI are appealing for witnesses who saw a purple coloured Isuzu pick-up truck and trailer to contact them. The road was closed, however it has since been re-opened.

Man Killed In Ballymena Crash Named
A 57-year-old man who died in a collision just outside Ballymena has been named as Anthony McGhee, police have confirmed. Mr McGhee, from the Dunloy area, was killed in a crash between Ballymena and Glarryford at around 6.30pm on Tuesday, 28 November. Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Appeal Issued After Attempted Robbery In West Belfast
Police are appealing for information after two men, one armed with a knife, attempted to rob a shop in west Belfast. The incident happened in the Kennedy Way area at around 5.25pm on Saturday, 02 December. The men demanded money from staff, however they made off empty handed.

Police have issued an appeal to help trace a missing 25-year-old man. Christopher Johnson was last seen in Newtownards on Thursday, 30 November. His family are becoming increasingly concerned of his whereabouts.

Eight police officers have been disciplined after two high speed car chases in which one person died and three others were seriously injured. The Police Ombudsman found that the officers had breached police pursuit policy.

Man Shot In Both Legs In West Belfast
A man has been shot in both legs in west Belfast. The victim was found in an alleyway in the Iris Court area at around 8.40pm on Wednesday, 29 November. He is currently being treated in hospital, however his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Car Destroyed In Arson Attack Could Have Been Fatal - PSNI
An arson attack on a car in the Craigavon area could have potentially spread to nearby houses and buildings which could have lead to fatalities, the PSNI have warned. A car was destroyed after being deliberately set on fire in the Ardboe Drive area just after midnight on Wednesday, 29 November.

Two Men Arrested On Suspicion Of Firearm Possession
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of firearm possession in Belfast city centre. Police received reports that the two males were carrying what is believed to be a firearm in the Castle Street area at around 3pm on Tuesday, 28 November. A suspected firearm was recovered and two men remain in police custody.

Police have launched an investigation after a man died in a serious road collision in Co Antrim. The crash happened on the A26 Crankill Road at around 6.30pm on Tuesday, 28 November. Part of the A26 was closed however it has since been re-opened.

Teen Arrested After Car Stolen In Lisburn
A teenager has been arrested from a suspected stolen car in west Belfast. It is believed the Jaguar was taken from just outside Lisburn in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 28 November. The PSNI detained a 17-year-old male after they stopped the vehicle in the Lagnore area.

Man Released Following Stabbing Incident In North Belfast
A man has been released after being arrested in connection with a stabbing incident in north Belfast. Three men sustained stab wounds at a house in the York Park area at in the early hours of Saturday, 25 November. Police attended the scene and found a man, aged in his 20's, with cuts to his head.

Appeal Issued After Hit-And-Run Incident In South Belfast
Police are appealing for information following a hit-and-run incident in south Belfast. A cyclist was struck by a silver/grey car in the Annadale Avenue/Saintfield Road area between 11am and 11.25am on Monday, 27 November. The cyclist is being treated in hospital for injuries.

Woman Sexually Assaulted In Omagh
Police have appealed for information after a 24-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Omagh. The attack is thought to have happened in a walkway in the Johnston Park area between 1am and 3am on Sunday (30 November). Detectives want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may be able to assist the investigation.

A woman has been found unconscious on a road in County Down. The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered on the Sheepland Road at around 4.30am on Sunday. She was taken to hospital where she is believed to be in a serious condition.
