Man Held Over Double Murder

A 33-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of a man and woman in east Belfast remains in custody and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Police investigating the murder in the Ravenhill Court area of east Belfast on Friday 13 December have named the deceased as 42-year-old Finbar McGrillen and 40-year-old Caron Smyth.

Alliance Belfast Councillor Maire Hendron said: "I would like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of the two victims. My thoughts are with them at what must be a difficult and painful time.

"The person responsible must be a very callous and cold-blooded individual to have taken the lives of two people. I cannot begin to comprehend what went through the mind of this person when they carried out this crime.

"If anybody has any information about the murder of this man and woman, then I would urge them to contact the Police."

A special incident room has been established at Musgrave Police Station. Anyone who can assist with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Incident Room on 0845 600 8000.

Alternatively, people can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
