New Patient Death At Royal Victoria Hospital Investigated

The Belfast Health Trust is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an elderly patient at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

It is understood that the patient was waiting on an A&E trolley to be examined by a consultant.

She had been brought to the hospital extremely ill last month during a busy Friday evening so it is believed that the delay, which made her wait four hours on a trolley, may have been a contributing factor in her death.

The woman died alone because her family was not contacted.

The news comes the same day that the Chief Executive of the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Colm Donaghy, resigned his position.
